No Respite for the Residents of Idleb During Eid al-Fitr

On Wednesday, Assad’s forces carried out air raids on populated areas in the de-escalation zone in Idleb province, killing at least five civilians and wounding dozens on the second day of Eid, which began with a bloody first day as Assad’s forces and Russia continued their bombardment of the area.

According to the Syrian Civil Defense, “Two children and a women were killed and eight others were wounded, including five children and a woman in the city of Maraat al-Nouman during two air raids that struck the town of Maraat al-Nouman and its outskirts.” It also recorded people, “wounded in the town of Kafr Nubl during a rocket bombardment on the city.”

According to sources from the rescue teams known as the “White Helmets,” 231 civilians, including 59 children, were killed and 659 others were wounded in Idleb during the month of May, as a result of the air raids carried out by Russian and regime forces.

Fighting on the ground also continued on Wednesday on the southern outskirts of Idleb province and in the northwestern Hama countryside, with military factions fighting the regime saying that they had repelled new attempts by the attacking forces to advance in the village of Kherbet al-Naquos and in Sahel al-Ghab.

The second day of Eid al-Fitr in Idleb was as bloody as the one before it, with Russian and regime warplanes continuing their heavy bombardment, striking villages and towns in Idleb province.

In parallel, regime forces continued their attempts to advance south of Idleb on Tuesday after taking control of the village of Kassbiya.

Previously on Monday-Tuesday, sources from the Free Syrian Army told Alsouria Net that regime forces were advancing at the expense of opposition groups in the villages of al-Humayrat, al-Hardana, and al-Qaroutiyeh, which are areas that had fallen militarily after Tel al-Qasabiyeh was taken.

These sources said that the village of al-Qasabiyeh was an advanced defensive point in the southern Idleb countryside for the party that controls it. From there, wide areas of the environs, whether Jabel Shahshou to the west or al-Habeit to the south are visible.
