Moscow, Tehran Call for Syrian Dialogue Without Foreign ‘Interference’

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhael Bogdanov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdullahian have affirmed the need to hold a broad Syrian dialogue to solve the crisis in the country, without foreign pressure while respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

At a meeting on Monday, both sides called on the international and regional community to settle the crisis in Syria, pushing for unified efforts to face the danger of terrorism, namely from the Islamic State (ISIS), according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The two officials also expressed support for the efforts of UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, underlining the necessity for an adequate response to combat the ISIS threat.
