Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham met a French delegation of parliamentarians, journalists, intellectuals and businessmen headed by French National Assembly member Thierry Mariani.
During the meeting, Laham stressed the important role which the national, regional and international parliamentary institutions could play in establishing peace, solving problems and crises through dialogue, and directing the public opinion to face the threat of global terrorism.
The Syrian MP asked his guests how European countries that have been advocates of democracy and freedom could ally with countries and kingdoms that promote radical extremism.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mariani said the visit by the French delegation aims to familiarize itself with what is actually taking place on the ground in Syria, asserting the importance of every effort to combat terrorism in the region.
