Jordanian FM Threatens to Expel Syrian Ambassador

Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said that the Syrian Ambassador to Amman, Bahjat Suleiman has exceeded all diplomatic norms and practices in representing his country's policy, according to Petra news agency.

Judeh said he had repeatedly warned the ambassador of continued breach of protocol in his statements, press releases, comments and articles, including via social media.

He singled out frequent insults to the civil and military institutions of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which he said harms the state that has hosted and embraced hundreds of thousands of his own citizens in its cities, villages and refugee camps.

The ambassador, Judeh said, lacks the minimum work experience of established diplomatic representation in other countries.

Judeh confirmed that he had issued a final warning to Suleiman to either comply with the rules of diplomatic work and refrain from any meetings, actions and statements that will affect Jordan and its constitutional institutions, or be expelled as persona non grata in Jordanian territory.

Suleiman was chief of internal security forces in the Syrian General Intelligence Department for seven years before assuming his diplomatic post.
