Over the past few days the forces of the Assad regime – heavily reliant on Hezbollah fighters, Russia and Iran – have launched a military operation to gain control over eastern Aleppo. Many tens of thousands of people remain trapped and are deprived of access to humanitarian aid. Today, the situation is darker than it has been at any point over the past years.
With medical facilities destroyed, people have no access to the medical care they so desperately need.
The Opposition has agreed to implement the UN humanitarian plan for Aleppo and the UN stands ready to deliver aid. On behalf of our countries, we appeal to the regime and its supporters to immediately cease fire and provide humanitarian access for the people of eastern Aleppo. Protection of civilians should be guaranteed at all times.
