Clashes erupted in the city of Bosra, in Syria's South, Monday between Syrian opposition fighters and Iranian fighters claiming to be pilgrims, 140 kilometers from the Sayda Zainab shrine, outside Damascus.
"Here is Busra al-Sham," an activist, Yamen al-Horani said, "the city listed as a World Heritage Site… Here is the Roman amphitheatre, the churches and the monastery of the monk, Bahira, and the mosques of Omar and Ibn Kuthair," he said.
"What makes the Iranians participate in this fight?" he asked, pointing out that "the majority of the city's 30,000 inhabitants are Sunni, while the Shiite population does not exceed 4,500 people…and most of them left the city in the early days of the revolution."
And, while fierce fighting continues, al-Horani said opposition battalions have liberated the building of Air Force Intelligence and the whole eastern quarter in Bosra, also killing and injuring many Iranian pilgrims and regime forces.
Bosra media center documented the death of four Iranian fighters, among them a leader close to the political leadership of Hezbollah.
