The Central Bank of Syria (CBS) Governor Adib Mayaleh said intervention on exchange markets will continue to protect the Syrian Pound from speculation and provide foreign currency to fund imports, in remarks issued Sunday.
Pointing out that currency exchange companies purchased 5.3 million Euros of the 100 million Euro sum which the CBS offered for sale, Mayaleh said there were also 43 million Euros still being processed that will soon be released, once required paperwork is complete.
Regarding economic cooperation with Iran, Mayaleh said that Iran is continuing to provide support for Syria by extending a credit line for the funding of imports valued at 1 billion USD, and another 3 billion USD credit line for the import of oil and petroleum products. He said this was in addition to an easy credit loan valued at 3 billion USD.
