The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry Wednesday summoned the Czech Ambassador in Damascus, who is in charge with managing British interests in Syria, handing him a medical report on the death of British citizen Abbas Khan.
The Ministry said Khan had “entered Syria illegally and participated in illegal activities”.
The report states that Khan Shah's death was caused by “self-inflicted asphyxiation performed with the intent to commit suicide”.
“Examination of the body's torso and X-rays showed no sign of violence, struggle or use of force,” the report said.
Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad denounced the politicization of this issue by the British PM, David Cameron and said that Syria was about to hand over Khan to his mother, along with UK MP George Galloway, who had intervened in the case.
Mekdad said that the pardon was to be timed with the Christmas and New Year holidays as a gesture towards the British people.
