On Sunday, the Kurdish Red Crescent reported first case of leprosy in the al-Hol refugee camp in the northeastern province of Hassakeh.
The medical team from the Kurdish Red Crescent said it had diagnosed a leprosy case in an Iraqi refugee woman who had recently arrived at the al-Hol camp.
On Sunday, hundreds of displaced people arrived at the camp from the towns of Hajin and Soussa, following a major assault by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against the Islamic State, aiming to wipe out the last vestige of the jihadist group’s “caliphate” in the SDF’s area of operations.
The camp hosts about 30,000 refugees, including Iraqis and Syrians.
Also in al-Hol, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that at least 29 children and newborns had died in the camp over the past two months due to the severe cold.
