The Grand Mufti of the Syrian Republic, Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun said Thursday attempts to fragment the region along religious and confessional lines are designed to serve the Zionist entity in the region.
Meeting a Latin American media delegation in Damascus, Hassoun said Israeli aggression against Syria aimed to disrupt Syria's pan-Arab role in the region.
''Syria will emerge stronger from the crisis thanks to the awareness, unity and resolve of the Syrian people,'' the Grand Mufti said.
Members of the delegation said their visit was designed to gain a better understanding of events in Syria with the intention of debunking a distorted and dirty media campaign against the country.
