During a press conference with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Cairo is ready to get Syria out of its current crisis as it is part of the Arab national security.
Shoukry added that his country is dealing with the Syrian issue in accordance with international consensus, in order to end the conflict and stabilize the country. He added that they are also waiting for the Syrian regime’s actions within the framework of the political solution, UN Resolution 2254 (2015), and related resolutions. Consequently, Cairo will make its decision.
He also pointed out that they have heard the perspective of those involved in the Syrian regime’s government regarding the crisis. They support the unity and sovereignty of the country.
The development coincided with the Arab countries’ diplomatic movement, particularly in Lebanon and Jordan, to restore relations with the Syrian regime. The latest of these developments was a call by King Abdullah of Jordan to the Syrian regime president Bashar al-Assad after a 10-year break.
For his part, Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s stance against attempts to politicize humanitarian aid delivery to Syria.

Lavrov stressed the need to provide assistance to Syrians in order to overcome the repercussions of the several-year-old crisis and work toward a political settlement on the basis of Security Council Resolution 2254.
The Russian minister said the terrorist threat in the Idleb area continues. Those described as terrorist groups stationed there are attacking Syrian army units as well as Russian forces.
A few days ago, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting in New York with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Shoukry stressed that the aim of the meeting with Mekdad is to explore how Egypt will contribute to Syria’s recovery from crisis and restoration to the Arab region.
