Egypt’s foreign minister on Sunday underlined the need for a political solution to the Syria crisis in order to ensure stability and to guarantee that the terrorist organizations will not return.
In an interview with Russian television station RT, Samih Shukri clarified that the de-escalation zones agreement has contributed to the resumption of the political track, stressing the importance of uniting the “opposition” to form a harmonious group able to engage in the political process.
He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Egypt on Monday comes in the framework of enhancing cooperation between the two countries and discussing the challenges facing the region.
Shukri added that an upcoming summit between Moscow and Cairo will be a good opportunity to exchange views and to set a joint strategic vision on a number of regional crises, in Syria, Yemen and Jerusalem.
