The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted a senior Chinese official at the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday saying that Chinese oil companies have left Syria due to "local disturbances”.
At a press conference, Director of the Department of Africa and West Asia at the Ministry of Commerce, Zhong Man Ying said China's assistance projects in Syria cannot continue after the departure of these companies.
Zhong said that commercial exchange between China and Syria has been affected since the unrest began, leading to the departure of Chinese companies and citizens from the country.
He added that trade between China and the West Asia and North Africa has increased in spite of the turmoil in that region in recent years.
