Assad Says Syrians Appreciate Iranian Position on Terrorism

President Bashar al-Assad stressed on Sunday the resolve of Syrians to eradicate terrorism and extremist thoughts, which are menacing the region and the world.

During his meeting with the Speaker of Iran’s Shura Council, Ali Larijani, and the accompanying Iranian delegation, Assad confirmed that Syrians are also keen to proceed with national reconciliation agreements across Syria on a parallel track with combating terrorism.

Larijani said the Syrian people are proud of the historical and brotherly relations binding them with the people of Iran, “which have witnessed many successes on the bilateral and regional levels over the past decades".

Iran’s stance on Syria is highly appreciated by the Syrian people, Assad noted, stressing the latter’s desire to further bolster cooperation with Iran in all domains and in a way that serves the common interests shared by the two countries and the establishment of security and stability in the region.

The Iranian Parliament’s Speaker, for his part, applauded the Syrian people for their steadfastness in countering the terrorist war targeting their security and stability.

While hailing the Syrian resolve, Larijani also made it clear that the people of Iran will not hesitate to provide all forms of support to Syria to the effect of further consolidating the requirements of this steadfastness and fighting terrorism and its backers.

The Iranian official also underscored Tehran’s support for efforts to push forward holding a national dialogue among Syrians, which he said would maintain Syria’s sovereignty and national unity away from external interferences.

Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, and Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, accompanied Larijani and Iran’s Ambassador in Damascus at the meeting.
