Israeli attacks on Syria reveal the scale of the Israeli involvement and the role of Western countries in the conflict in Syria, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Tuesday during a meeting Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salehi.
Assad met with Salehi and an Iranian delegationin Damascus on Tuesday to discuss the latest developments in the area and the risks presented by the latest Israeli aggression against Syria.
The Salehi expressed Iran's strong condemnation of blatant Israeli aggression on Syrian territory,stressing that the Islamic Republic stands firmly with Syria in the face of Israeli attempts to meddle with the security of the region and weaken the resistance axis. He stressed that the time had come to deter the Israeli occupiers form carrying out such attacks against the people of the region.
President Assad said that the latest Israeli aggression reveals the extent of Israel's occupation and the way in which regional and western countries support it during the ongoing events in Syria.
He said the Syrian people and their valiant army, which has recently achieved important victories against terrorists and jihadist groups, are capable of facing the Israeli aggression as another part of a campaign of terrorism that is targeting Syria daily.
Assad and Salehialso discussed the existing relationship between Syria and the Islamic Republic, expressing a commitment to enhance cooperation in all fields.
“We are confident that Syria will emerge from the crisis victorious because the Syrian people and the Syrian government are right and this righteousness stems from the will of the people," Salehi told reporters after the meeting, also praising the Syrian people for their unity.
"There is harmony amongst the Syrian people… Without the steadfastness of the Syrian people and their support for the valiant army and their government, no government could have withstood this onslaught," he said.
Salehi said Iran is "optimistic" about the future of Syria, saying it was "headed in the right direction, towards victory."
"We will not accept any external interference in Syria," Salehi concluded, adding that "the Syrian people are the sole authorized party to make decisions related to their future."
