While regime warplanes drop thousands of explosive barrels on the people of Aleppo and the countryside of Idleb and Daraa, killing hundreds of innocent children and women, the barbarian groups of ISIS attacked the cities of Hassakeh and Kobani, killing its peaceful inhabitants.
These simultaneous atrocities show the danger of leaving Syria prey to these bloody beasts, not only in regards to the future of Syria and the fate of its people, but on the whole region and the fate of its people.
As ISIS strikes Kuwait, Tunisia and France, Iran and its militias further confirmed their support to the criminal tyrant in Damascus is indefinite.
The danger is that these crimes have begun to take a clear sectarian dimension, even at a local level in almost all countries of the region, as ISIS targets Shiite mosques, as if in a covert alliance with the mullahs of Iran who encourage sectarian strife in the Arab region to portray themselves as the protectors, supporters and defenders of Arabs, as they do in Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen. Iran uses its militias in these countries to strengthen its hegemony throughout the region, and undermine the unity of Arab societies.
Mobilization and counter-mobilization, terrorism and counter-terrorism led the Arab region into a vicious cycle that will not be easy to break. It is a process that could endure for years to come, and will give both Iran and Israel hope to achieve their expansion ambitions at the expense of dismantling the Arab societies.
Breaking this cycle and stopping the bloodshed will not be an easy task in the absence of any American and wider-international desire, especially with the absence of the Obama administration’s desire to contribute to ending the disaster and breaking this tragic pattern. There are some who believe the American administration might be satisfied with current developments, as all this attrition war targets two enemies of the United States; Iran and its militias, and Al-Qaeda and its affiliates – both weakening each other at no cost for the United States, while Syria and its people pay the full price. At the same time, weakening Arab and Islamic countries and dismantling their societies serves Israel and postpones any real threat to its occupation of the Arab territories.
In conclusion, the salvation of this disaster lies in the hands of the political and cultural elites of the peoples of this region of Arabs, Kurds, Turks, Iranians and Syrians of different national, religious and sectarian affiliations, as their homeland and their people provide the fuel for this dirty war.
