A representative of the Australian Foreign Ministry, John Philip, visited parts of eastern Syria under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as part of a chain of visits the region has witnessed by foreign and Arab officials.
On Saturday, the ANHA agency of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said that John Philip had arrived at the Foreign Relations Directorate of the Self-Administration in northeastern Syria in Qamishli.
It added that he was received by the co-president of the Administration, Abdel Kareem Omar, and his co-vice president Abeer Ayala.
According to the agency, Philip held a meeting with the co-chair of the Self-Administration and was expected to deliver a statement about the visit’s results.
The visit comes within a chain of visits seen in northeastern Syria, but the most prominent visit has been by the Saudi State Minister for Gulf Affairs, Thamer al-Sabhan, with American officials, in which he met Deir ez-Zor tribal officials and SDF military and political commanders.
The website added that the most recent visit seen in the area was on Jun. 18, 2019, when the Swedish UN envoy to Syria, Ber Ornioz, and the official in charge of Syrian issues in the Foreign Ministry, Caruhan Wenberkh, met with officials from the Syrian Democratic Council in Qamishli.
