Al-Zoubi: Presidential Elections Will be Held on Time

Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi has said that his government, the Syrian state, army and people will continue to counter terrorism and carry out all the constitutional entitlements, including the presidential elections, which will be held on time.

"The aggressor states have been working to undermine the Syrian state from the beginning…but the Syrian state, army and people will continue to counter terrorism and carry out all the constitutional entitlements including the presidential elections, which will be held on time and with better conditions," Zoubi said.

Zoubi highlighted that presidential elections do not contradict what has been included in the Geneva communiqué, pointing out that "the U.N. envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi has not read the communiqué, as he has not been an honest broker; nevertheless, we have not objected on his presumption of performing his role."

Zoubi noted that Brahimi's statements on a contradiction between Geneva and the presidential entitlement confirms his adoption of the U.S.-Turkish-Qatari viewpoint that aims at undermining Syrian state.

He denied any communications with Qatar, due to considerations fpor what he described as "ethical, humane, nationalistic and pan-Arab considerations of the Syrian leadership that says that we will not sell the blood of the Syrian martyrs.. and that each one who takes part in killing Syrians will pay and rejects any communications with Qatar."

The Information Minister stressed there is no decision preventing any media outlet that is certified by Media National Council from working in Syria according to the law, but that the rules of media work in Syria "have changed for realistic reasons", adding that "allowing opposition channels to work serves Syria's interests."
