The Ahrar al-Sham movement, one of the biggest Syrian rebel groups, announced it was rejecting the Russian-US ceasefire agreement in Syria which was implemented on Monday, saying it was an unjust deal that compared the revolutionary forces to murderers.
In a video statement, the deputy general commander of the movement Ali al-Omar attacked the agreement late on Sunday, saying that “the revolutionary people who have withstood the sixth year despite the killing and displacement they have experienced cannot be satisfied by half-solutions or subjected to political theses and agreements which waste their goals and equate them with a murderer.”
“Forfeit the sacrifices”
“We see [the ceasefire deal] as not achieving the least of the aims of our revolutionary people, and forfeiting all their sacrifices and gains,” Omar said in a statement obtained by Alsouria Net, adding that “the agreement contributes to entrenching the regime and encircling the revolution militarily and in terms of security to the point of being free of any political proposal. It exceeds all previous deals despite their evil.”
The rebel leader said that, “the international community’s continual proposals of biased initiatives like these does not do anything but increase suffering and the continuation of the regime’s brutality and push further away the real political solution which the Syrian people aspire toward.”
The Russian-American deal allows for the continued targeting of Fateh al-Sham (previously Nusra Front before breaking ties with Al-Qaeda). Omar said: “We reject the targeting of any faction from among the factions of our blessed revolution or attempts to isolate some of its constituents or assassinate its military leaders who are confronting the regime’s crimes. The international community, if it is serious in its war on terrorism, must stop the criminal regime’s terrorism and those of the Lebanese, Iraqi and Iranian invading militias, who are sowing murder and destruction throughout Syria.”
