President Bashar al-Assad received congratulatory messages from various Arab leaders on the occasion of Evacuation Day, notably including Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The Saudi state news agency SPA reported that King Salman sent a telegram to President al-Assad, extending “sincere congratulations and best wishes for health and happiness to His Excellency, and wishing further progress and prosperity for the government and people of the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic.”

Additionally, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed his congratulations in a cable to President Assad, expressing “his best congratulations and sincere wishes for good health and happiness to His Excellency, and further progress and prosperity for the government and people of the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic.”

This marks the first time since the onset of the Syrian war that President al-Assad has received a congratulatory cable from Saudi Arabia on Evacuation Day. The renewal of Syrian-Saudi relations began in 2023, highlighted by Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad’s visit to Riyadh on April 12, followed by a reciprocal visit on April 18, 2023, by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan to Damascus where he met with President Bashar al-Assad.
