On Saturday a patrol of Russian forces was attacked by unknown figures in the eastern Daraa countryside, coinciding with a blast that hit the car of a colonel in Assad’s forces.

The Independent Horan Journalists page said that an attack was carried out on a, “Russian patrol near the Kharba station on the main road near the town of al-Sahwa in the eastern Daraa countryside in a heavy blast.”

The loyalist Lattakia Now website said that, “unknown people had targeted a Russian armored vehicle with an explosive device along the road between Basra al-Sham and the town of al-Sahwa.”

The loyalist page said that a colonel in Assad’s forces had also been hit by a seperate explosive device east of Basr al-Harir.

The Khatwa News Agency said that, “a convoy of Russian forces composed of two cars and a military vehicle in the eastern countryside of Daraa province was hit with an explosive device, wounding three members of Russian forces.”

The agency added that, “an unknown group struck the car of a regime officer with an explosive device, killing him immediately.”

It also said that the, “area saw a heavy security mobilization along the road between Basr al-Harir and Suweidah province, as well as a deployment of regime militias on the general road in Basr al-Harir amid a heavy security presence.”

The Middle East Institute in Washington said in a recent report that, “Assad’s forces are in danger of losing control over Daraa as a result of the operations carried out by unknown militants over the last three months.”

According to the report, “assassinations, repeated attacks on checkpoints, arson, and sporadic clashes have created chaos that threatens a new conflict returning to the region.”
