Islam Alloush Announces Resignation as Army of Islam Spokesperson

Colonel Islam Alloush, the official spokesperson for the Army of Islam rebel group, announced on Tuesday morning he was resigning from his position.

Alloush, one of the most prominent figures in the key opposition group since its foundation, said in a statement published on his official Twitter account that, “Due to the requirements of public interest, I announce that I, Colonel Islam Alloush, a representative of Army of Islam, am resigning from the position of official Army of Islam spokesman.”

“This resignation is announced from the duties of official spokesman, including relations with media unlike other positions in the army, which are limited to internal announcements among other representatives,” the statement added.

Observers connected the resignation and the commotion over Alloush’s recent meeting with an Israeli journalist. The Araby-21 website said that sources close to the Army of Islam denied this, saying that the issue was related to an internal arrangement.
