The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Monday that a Russian Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate left the port of Sevastopol in Crimea for Syria.
The ministry added that the frigate will cross the Bosphorus Strait on Tuesday and will join a group of Russian warships deployed near the Syrian coast on the Mediterranean Sea.
The Admiral Grigorovich, which joined the Russian naval fleet in 2016, is armed with Kaliber cruise missiles, anti-aircraft systems, torpedoes, and anti-submarine weapons. In 2016, the frigate participated in operations against the Islamic State group in Syria as one of the Russian warships operating in the Mediterranean Sea.
