On Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) confiscated big amounts of fuel and crude oil which were intended for smuggling to Syrian government-held areas. The merchandise was meant to go through the river crossings in the eastern countryside of Deir Ez-Zor, in eastern Syria.
According to a military source, the SDF has confiscated two oil ferries intended to be smuggled through crossings near the towns of al-Shuhail and Thiban in the Euphrates River. Further, their owners, who were trying to transfer the shipments to the river’s opposite bank under the government’s control, fled.
The raid came after confirmed information that quantities of oil would be smuggled through those crossings. Nevertheless, the operation has not resulted in any clashes, the source added.
The SDF conducts night patrols daily and regularly launches raids on the river crossings to prevent smuggling.
