450 Billion Pounds Needed to Rebuild Eastern Ghouta

The Governor of the Damascus Countryside, Alaa Munir Ibrahim, has said that the damage in eastern Ghouta is major and reconstruction will require 450 billion Syrian pounds, while just three billion pounds has been allocated to carry out the aid plan for residents rebuilding their homes.

The government added that 100 million to 150 million pounds will be granted to support municipalities, while work on health centers and hospitals will be divided into three sections: A section for centers to be renovated immediately because the damage is light. The first section which will be allocated for reconstruction and upon which work will be done; and a third section for which a list has been prepared, includes more than 30 health centers for which funding is being searched for. He said that the average cost will be up to 500 million pounds.

Ibrahim noted that the Harasta, al-Nashabiya, Maleeha, and Douma hospitals would be included in the reconstruction plan. He said that the cost of these hospitals without medical equipment was about 20 billion pounds, adding that the main problem was the heavy damage. The Douma hospital needed 10 billion pounds and the initial estimates for the Harasta hospital was about a billion pounds.
