Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi Monday condemned Israeli strikes on Syria, saying Israel was "playing with fire."
Salehi also outlined the dangers of religious extremism in the region, describing terrorist groups operating in Syria as "having no roots or commitment to any principles," during a meeting with his Turkmenistan counterpart Rashid Meredov.
Salehi said he hoped Iran, as head of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), a group of over 120 States with no formal alliance with any major power bloc, could have a role in finding a peaceful solution to the current crisis in Syria. He noted consultations between Iran and other with other NAM countries in Latin America would continue.
Salehi was meeting with the Cuba's deputy foreign minister for political affairs, Rogelio Sierra Díaz in Tehran Monday.
He said "intense consultations" would be held with regional and international states, particularly Cuba and other Latin American countries, as part of efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria.
