Syria condemned a decision by the European Union to lift an arms embargo on Syria, paving the way to arm the rebels, a spokesperson for the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on Tuesday.
"The European Union Foreign Ministers Council adopted on 27 May, 2013 a decision that renews the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people and allows its member states to export arms to terrorist groups, contrary to its allegations on a commitment to the political solution to the crisis in Syria," the spokesperson said.
"The EU decision exposes the falsity of their allegations and it proves they are hindering international efforts aimed at achieving a political settlement to the crisis in Syria based on national dialogue among the Syrians, and led by Syria."
The spokesperson went on to say that "the decision uncovers the political hypocrisy of France and Britain, which claim to care about the interests of the Syrian people, while they pressure the EU to renew economic sanctions on the people and supply terrorists with weapons."
