Foreign Ministry Advises Syrians Against Travel to Turkey

Officials at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry Sunday have Syrians against travel to Turkey during the country's period of unrest.

An official ministry source issued a statement on Sunday saying travel to Turkey was not advised due to safety concerns.

"The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry advises Syrian citizens against travel to Turkey during this period, amid fears for their safety and due to the deteriorating security conditions in some Turkish cities…and the violence practiced by Erdogan's government against peaceful protesters,'' the statement said.

Popular protests against the policies of the Turkish government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan continued for the third day in Ankara, Istanbul and other areas Sunday. Protesters demanded the Turkish government's resignation and Erdogan's departure.

The Turkish police have responded to peaceful protests by using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters in Istanbul and the capital Ankara, in addition to several other areas.
