Homs governor Ahmad Munir Mohammad denied as "baseless" media reports alleging that the Syrian army targeted the Khaled Ibn al-Walid Mosque in the province.
In a statement to SANA on Sunday, Mohammad said armed terrorist groups are infamous for such acts, having targeted Aleppo's Ummayyad Mosque, the al-Omari Mosque in Daraa and the tomb of the Prophet's Companion Hujr Ibn Adi, in the Damascus countryside.
Mohammad said the army is committed to the protection of all places of religion and worship as "belonging to human civilization", adding that the attacks, committed by infidel extremist groups, target sites of human and historic value to both Arabs and Muslims.
