Activists with human rights committees in Damascus confirmed with All4Syria that activist Kamal Sheikho has been detained, several days after his disappearance was reported.
Allan Sheikho, Kamal Sheikho's brother, confirmed the news in statements published on Kurdish websites that his brother had been detained by criminal security forces in Damascus and that he had been tortured in a brutal fashion.
Sheikho is a writer with All4Syria and an activist and human rights' advocate, alongside his work as a journalist.
Kamal was detained on 23 June 2010 on the Syrian-Lebanese border and was accused of publishing false news that can weaken the morale of the state. He was detained again on the 16 March, 2011 in Damascus after a peaceful stand-in in front of the Ministry for Internal Affairs for the release of detainees.
