Minister of Electricity, Imad Khamis with the Chinese Ambassador in Damascus, Chang Shi Yon on Thursday to discuss enhanced cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy investment.
The two also discussed the implementation and completion of joint projects between the two countries.
Khamis said it was important that contracts were finalized and that and memorandum of understanding was signed between the ministry and a number of Chinese companies working in the power generation sector and in the export of the equipment needed for electricity supply in Syria.
He confirmed that the ministry will work to overcome all obstacles impeding the implementation of the contracts in the common interests of both countries.
The minister expressed the Syrian government's desire to involve the largest number of Chinese companies in the proposals and tenders announced by the ministry regarding the exportation and purchase of good for electricity sector requirements.
"Despite the current crisis in Syria, the electricity minister has signed numerous contracts with Arab and foreign companies for the export of goods in this sector, which has become the backbone of the Syrian economy," the minister said.
He called for communication mechanisms with Chinese companies in order to spur investment in Syria and expressed the ministry's readiness to send representatives to China to sign the necessary contracts.
The Chinese ambassador hailed the deep Chinese-Syrian relations in all fields, indicating that the Chinese government takes great care to cooperate with Syria, particularly in electricity.
