Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi on Saturday said the government is committed to improving economic conditions of citizens and will expanding subsidization of goods and materials.
Halqi said the government will also provide food baskets to citizens.
Chairing a meeting of the committee for the restructure of the government subsidization program, Halqi said the meeting aimed to establish new economic mechanisms to ease the burden on citizens as a result of the current crisis.
He said that the government is working hard to overcome challenges despite the economic sanctions and the economic and media warfare being waged on Syria. The challenges are also increased as a result of some merchants running a monopoly on certain goods and speculation on the dollar exchange rate.
Halqi stressed the need for the Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ministry to monitor market prices and to hold accountable those who manipulate prices.
