A carnival was held in the embattled town of Kafer Batna in the East Ghouta area of Damascus Friday, with more than 350 children participating.
The event was organized by the Nesmah Syrian NGO to celebrate the second day of the Eid al-Fitr holiday that follows the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
One the carnival organizers, Ouais al-Shami, said the children enjoyed singing, laughing and playing, despite the ongoing government shelling and artillery that could be heard.
"The unexpected number of the participants proved for all of us that honest hearts can cleanse all feelings of revenge and hatred," al-Shami said.
