Chairmen of the rebel Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Syrian National Coalition will visit Washington next week to try to convince Congressmen of a positive vote on a proposed U.S. strike on Syria, political coordinator of the Free Syrian Army, Louay Mokdad said.
The Syrian opposition has called on the U.S. Congress to approve a military action against Bashar Assad and has said any intervention should be accompanied with more arms for the rebels.
"Dictatorships like Iran and North Korea are watching closely to see how the free world responds to the Assad regime's use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people," the Coalition said in a statement issued in Istanbul last week.
"If the free world fails to respond to such an outrageous breach of international norms, dictators around the world will be encouraged in their efforts to follow the example set by Assad," it said.
