The Russian Black Sea Fleet announced on Monday that the Yamal landing ship will head to the Mediterranean at the ened of September.
The Russia Today website quoted the Fleet's press office saying that preparations are underway for the ship's journey. It is currently anchored at the Sevastopol Port but will soon depart, the report said, adding that the crew has practised opening fire on maritime and air targets.
Yamal's visit to the Mediterranean is to participate in the annual Russian Week in Greece for the 186th anniversary of the Navarino battle, when Greece secured independence from the Ottoman Empire.
