Free Syrian Army fighters blew up a major seat of regime forces in Aleppo on Thursday, and continued their advance in Hama province, approaching the military airport in order to "neutralize" the area.
Meanwhile, a number of children were killed in raids by warplanes in the second day of Eid al-Fitr.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that "at least 13 members of regime's forces were killed after fighters from the Islamic brigades blew up tunnels under the old building of police forces headqurters in the vicinity of Aleppo Citadel in old Aleppo."
"The bombing of the tunnels came within a series of bombing tunnels executed by al-Nusra Front and Islamic battalions and battalions fighting in old Aleppo," the Observatory said.
In central Syria, opposition fighters made new progress near Hama's military airport. The director of the Observatory, Rami Abdulrahman, told AFP agency that "fighting battalions are just nine kilometers from Hama military airport which they seek to paralyze".
The Observatory said the fighters with the Nusra Front and other brigades took control of the Tarabih front in Hama, which enabled them to cut the road between the cities of Hama and Mhardeh in the countryside after violent clashes with regime forces.
The commander of the Central Front in the region, Yusuf Hassan, told AFP in a telephone conversation that opposition fighters are trying to advance towards the airport of Hama in order to "neutralize" it because the regime "makes there the explosive barrels delivered by helicopters to areas at the airport, and the aircraft launch their raids from the airport to shell the areas under the control of the armed opposition".
Raids continued on the second day of Eid al-Fitr, killing five children and two women in the town of Shannan in Jabal az-Zawiyah in the countryside of Edlib in the northwest of the country. A child was killed when regime forces shelled Daraya city, west of Damascus, according to the Observatory. Activists said warplanes launched raids on the city of Duma east of the capital, killing and wounding a number of people, including children.
