Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov and the delegation accompanying him on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations.
Moallem voiced his appreciation for Belarus’ position in support of the Syrian leadership and people under the "systematic terrorism" the country is being subjected to.
The meeting covered means of boosting the bilateral relations in the economic, scientific and cultural fields and finding a mechanism to develop the work of the Syrian-Belarusian Joint Committee to the best interests of the people of both countries.
While expressing appreciation of the Belarusian stances towards Syria, Moallem stressed the need that the relationship between both sides be consolidated and that the existing bilateral coordination be continued at all international forums.
The Belarusian Minister stressed his country’s absolute support for Syria, highlighting the importance of the upcoming meetings of the Joint Committee as far as expanding cooperation and coordination is concerned.
The meeting between Moallem and Ryabkov was preceded by official talks held earlier on the day in the framework of regular political deliberations that take place between Syria and Belarus.
Ryabkov expressed Belarus’ condemnation of the terrorism striking Syria and called for concerted international efforts for countering terrorism in the framework of the international legitimacy and in accordance with international resolutions.
He confirmed the importance of avoiding selectivity and double standards in relation to efforts to combat terrorism.
