Assad Grants Amnesty for Military Deserters

A general amnesty will be granted for military deserters inside and outside of Syria, according to a decree issued on Wednesday by President Bashar al-Assad.

The decree grants an amnesty for those who deserted the Syrian armed forces before February 17, 2016.

According to the text of the decree, fugitives who fled the country have two months to turn themselves in to authorities, while those who are still inside Syria have one month.
