Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that the UN Security Council draft resolution proposing sanctions on Syria under the pretext of using chemical weapons is unacceptable.
Gatilov told reporters on Monday that the "Western version of the draft resolution" is unacceptable to Russia.
Last Friday, Russian Deputy UN Ambassador, Vladimir Safronkov, said that Russia intends to veto the draft resolution which was prepared by the US, the UK, and France. He asserted that the three states’ evidence, upon which they base the resolution, is insufficient and that it violates the presumption of innocence.
Gatilov said that he came to Geneva to take part in the UN Human Rights Council meeting, and that he will meet with UN Envoy Staffan de Mistura, adding that meetings with opposition delegations were not unlikely.
