The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Free Syrian Army released a statement on Sunday announcing that the rebel alliance is ready to provide full support to Jaish Usud al-Sharqiya (Lions of the East Army) and the Forces of Martyr Ahmad al-Abdo in the fight against pro-Assad militias and Islamic State (ISIS) forces in the Badia region.

According to the statement, which was signed by 32 FSA factions, the rebel forces “believe that the southern front in the Syrian desert is the best position to liberate the province of Deir-ez-Zor from.” The factions also confirmed their readiness to provide all the support required to begin the liberation of Deir-ez-Zor, calling on all rebel factions to participate in this crucial battle.

The statement urged the international community and the Friends of Syria countries to support the FSA in the battles. Jaish Usud al-Sharqiya and the Forces of Martyr Ahmad al-Abdo are also waging a fierce battle against Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Badia with the objective of eventually reaching Deir-ez-Zor.
