Senior SDF Commander Killed by ISIS in Battle for Raqqa

U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces on Wednesday mourned the loss of Manbij Militay Council leader Adanan Abou Amjad, who was killed in clashes with Islamic State (ISIS) forces in the city of Raqqa.

Fierce clashes continue on the ground in the Morour, Bareed and Nadha neighborhoods.

The SDF took the strategic Al-Mansour district on Monday, a gain which activists say will speed the collapse of the radical group's capital.

Nowruz Ahmad, a top-ranking Kurdish commander, told Reuters that the battle to oust ISIS from its stronghold should end within two months.

Ahmad, who sits on the SDF military council, said: “We cannot determine the time period in which the battle of Raqqa will end precisely because war has its conditions. But we do not expect it to last long, and according to our plans the battle will not take longer than two months from now.”
