The Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Sham (ISIS) has says imposed a rule making it compulsory to wear the hijab in schools in Raqqa, local activists reported.
ISIS said it will distribute hijabs for free. Activists say in time, the people of Raqqa will suffer from more restrictions on their freedom, after extremists expelled the Free Syrian Army.
Rebel groups in Syria have become increasingly fractured, with Islamist extremists, including those linked to al-Qaeda, assuming prominent roles in battle.
