Syrian Coalition: Regime Seeks to Weaken our Ties with Brotherly and Friendly Countries

The opposition Syrian National Coalition warns against rumours and fake news promoted by the Assad regime to divide Syrians and weaken their foreign relations. The Coalition reaffirms its commitment to the demands of the Syrian people and emphasizes building international relations based on mutual respect and common interests. It calls on Syrians to be wise and not be drawn into misleading propaganda aimed at dismantling the national fabric. The Coalition is committed to protecting the rights to protest and expression and stands against authoritarianism and separatist projects.

The opposition Syrian National Coalition urges people not to be swayed by what it describes as “rumours and fake news” and incitement, noting that the Assad regime intends to spread these to divide Syrians and weaken their relationship with friendly countries.

In a statement on Saturday, the Syrian Coalition stressed its “full commitment to the demands and aspirations of the Syrian people, which they revolted and sacrificed to achieve.” These demands and aspirations have guided the Coalition’s work since its inception. The Coalition emphasizes that its relations with friendly countries are based on mutual respect for the rights of the Syrian people, their aspirations, and their freedom to make independent decisions according to their national interests.

“It is the right of these countries to build their policies in a way that preserves their interests and national security,” the statement said, adding that the Coalition “affirms its keenness to strengthen relations with them in a way that serves common national interests and achieves the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, and the prosperity and progress of their countries and peoples.” The Coalition stresses the need to avoid those who promote enmity rather than friendship to weaken the revolution and divide its ranks.

The Coalition appealed to “free” Syrians to be wise and not be drawn into rumours and fake news that the Assad regime seeks to spread to differentiate between the sons of the same people and between them and their institutions since the first spark of the revolution in 2011. The regime aims to make Syrians enemies of each other and seeks to weaken their relations with any friendly country, without naming any of those countries.
