Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, reiterated Syria’s commitment to supporting partners in humanitarian and development work. He announced the extension of the UN’s license to use the Bab al-Hawa crossing for an additional six months to deliver aid to needy civilians in northwest Syria.
Speaking at a UN Security Council session, Ambassador Al-Dahhak highlighted Syria’s ongoing efforts to facilitate the return of displaced persons and refugees. He noted that hundreds of refugees have recently returned from Lebanon under favourable conditions, demonstrating the falsehood of Western propaganda in this area and its lack of credibility.
“The fruits of the ongoing cooperation between Syria and the United Nations remain below the required level due to the West’s hostile stances, violations of international law, illegal military presence, support for militias and terrorist organizations, and the plundering of national resources,” Al-Dahhak stated.
He emphasized that the latest report by the ESCWA committee on the coercive measures imposed on Syria reveals the disastrous effects of these sanctions and refutes the allegations promoted by those who imposed the blockade.
The Syrian diplomat called for the immediate and complete lifting of coercive measures and the provision of sustainable and predictable funding to enable the United Nations to implement the humanitarian response plan, which is currently underfunded at only 20 percent.
