Interior Minister Mohamad al-Shaar appeared on the Syrian official TV for the first time after he was severely wounded in an attack that the Syrian rebels waged at his Ministry in Damascus last month.

Shaar said that combating terrorism which has been targeting the country, its people and the army for almost two years is inevitable to restore stability in Syria.

Shaar has returned to Syria after being treated in a Lebanese hospital for severe injuries he had at an attack that the Syrian rebels waged at the Ministry of Interior last December.

In his statement, Shaar called on “all honest citizens to cooperate with the armed forces and law enforcement personnel to fight this organized terrorism.”

"Terrorism which aims to sabotage the people and the stone alike is the basic obstacle before the restoration of stability to the country," al-Shaar said.

Shaar had cut short his treatment at a Beirut hospital and returned home for fear of being arrested by Lebanese authorities. He left the hospital early and flew home to Damascus on a private jet, officials at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport said.

A top Lebanese security official told The Associated Press that al-Shaar was rushed out of Lebanon after authorities there received information that international arrest warrants could be issued against him because of his role in the deadly crackdown against protesters in Syria.
