An event promoting the restoration of hundreds of damaged stores in Homs’ historical covered market kicked off in the Old City last week.
The project will focus on restoring life to over 600 stores through rehabilitating the infrastructure including lighting, electrical, solar power, water and drainage systems and networks.
The two-day event was launched in cooperation with the UNDP and a number of local organizations, and includes archaeological lectures, music performances, cultural symposiums and a photo exhibition.
The photo exhibition will showcase 210 photos documenting the UNDP’s achievements in Homs starting with debris removal, rehabilitation of infrastructure and other UNDP projects, as well as paintings on glass, accessories and candles.
Speaking at the occasion, Public Works and Housing Minister Hussein Arnous underlined the importance of the event in restoring life to Khan al-Qeisariyeh, noting that further efforts will focus on rebuilding what has been destroyed due to terrorism.
Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi also highlighted the government’s keenness and continuous interest in rehabilitating the Old City of Homs and its markets.
