PM Khamis Fires Damascus Airport Director Ahead of International Fair

Prime Minister Imad Khamis has demanded the resignation of Damascus International Airport director Basel Maadanli and scrapped a contract for an airport services company after receiving complains from passengers.

The move came after Khamis visited Damascus airport on Monday to review services for passengers and inspect preparations for the 59th Damascus International Fair to be held Thursday.

During a tour of maintenance works, Khamis pointed to the necessity of renovating all sections of the airport in a way that meets the needs of all passengers, especially the delegations and companies participating in the upcoming fair.

For his part, Transport Minister Ali Hammoud said that five of the gates which have been closed since the beginning of the war on Syria have been reopened and equipped to accommodate the airport’s activities during the fair.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohamad al-Shaar said that services at immigration and passport control have been improved to facilitate the arrival of the participants.
