Bahra Comments News That Opposition Have Received Offers to Agree with Syrian Regime

Hadi al-Bahra, the head of the Syrian National Coalition, affirmed that there have been no political negotiations or direct/indirect negotiating tracks between any revolutionary or opposition institutions and the Syrian regime since the Constitutional Committee ceased its work in 2022.

Bahra clarified that opposition institutions have not faced any pressure or received offers for agreements or understandings from the regime, directly or indirectly through any country. He dismissed all rumors suggesting otherwise as completely untrue.

He further stated, “Simultaneously, our relations with all countries are based on Syrian national interests, aiming to serve our people. We have adhered to this framework consistently, prioritizing our people’s interests, alleviating their suffering, and fulfilling their aspirations.”

Bahra emphasized the importance of fostering friendships rather than animosities, noting, “It is crucial to respect our regional environment, including those Arab countries that have normalized relations due to political and security considerations. Creating enmity is not beneficial. Instead, we must enhance our people’s capabilities through more friendships and constructive understandings that promote our national interests.”

Bahra’s remarks coincide with Turkey’s announcement of its intent to normalize relations with the Syrian regime. However, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan underscored that Ankara will not impose decisions on or pressure the Syrian opposition in its decision-making process.
