Ayn Saheb: New Destination for Iranian Militias in Damascus Countryside

Confidential sources disclosed to Sawt al-Asima concerning “unusual” and recent activity in the Ayn Saheb area of Damascus countryside involving the Lebanese Hezbollah militia and other militias associated with Iran. Their aim appears to be establishing themselves in barracks and military installations belonging to the regime’s army.

Generals affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), along with members of Iraqi and Lebanese militias, reportedly visited several military sites, including training camps and underground warehouses. They conducted surveys of the area in order to present a security assessment to their leadership, likely in response to increased attacks on their positions of control in Sayyida Zeinab and the southwestern countryside of Damascus.

Ayn Saheb is situated near the village of al-Derij in the northern countryside of Damascus, approximately 1 km away, and a mere 16 km from the Syrian-Lebanese border.

According to sources from Sawt al-Asima, Iranian commanders from eastern Syria, as well as members of the Iraqi Harakat al-Nujaba and the Palestinian militia of the Jerusalem Brigade, arrived from both southern and northern Syria to inspect the same sites.

Eyewitnesses reported to Sawt al-Asima that members of the Hezbollah militia, identifiable by cars bearing Lebanese plates, have been frequently seen in the village and surrounding areas over the past two weeks. Sources in Damascus informed Sawt al-Asima that Hezbollah is taking responsibility for preparing the area to serve as a new strategic position for Tehran-backed militias.

In recent days, Iranian militias have been observed transferring large generators and fuel tanks to the warehouses where they intend to be stationed. They have disseminated information among locals indicating that they are operating underground wells. However, it is speculated by a security source speaking to Sawt al-Asima that Iran’s militias aim to establish factories for the development of drones and precision weapons in the region.

These developments follow a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting military sites and farms utilized by the Revolutionary Guards, Lebanese Hezbollah militias, and Palestinian factions as military bases and storage facilities for Iranian weaponry in the Damascus countryside.

The Israeli bombardments resulted in the deaths of IRGC generals, commanders, and officials responsible for planning operations against Israel, as well as the destruction of weapon shipments and the military and intelligence infrastructure of Iran-backed militias.
