Suspected Turkish Raid on al-Qaeda Group in Idleb

A suspected Turkish force conducted an overnight air drop in the Idleb countryside tracking Hurras al-Din group, the new al-Qaeda branch in Syria, a local reporter said.

The helicopter-borne raid had been chasing a convoy of Hurras al-Din fighters near the village of Barisha, about 3 miles from the Turkish border.

Another report says the operation was carried out by the US Army targeting the Islamic State (ISIS) leader, Abou Bakr al-Baghdadi, and his family.

On Sept. 16, 2019, ISIS’s media network issued a 30-minute audio message purporting to come from Baghdadi, in which he said operations were taking place daily and called on supporters to free women jailed in camps in Iraq and Syria over their alleged links to his group.
